When we are asked to name the founding fathers of the EU, we usually recall Winston Churchill, Robert Schumann, Jacques Delors, and other famous politicians. You can easily find information about these people in books and on the Internet, and their lives and work are discussed on television. But, as in any other such story, there were other people involved whose names are passed over in the history textbooks and ignored by the mass media.

The people we would like to tell you about also contributed to the unification of Europe. Some of them acted consciously, while others were not even aware of what they were doing. Many of them traveled around Europe, while others never left their home countries. Some of them were native-born, while others were children of immigrants. The project consists of twenty-seven stories about twenty-seven people from the current member states of the EU. Our goal is the underscore the role of ordinary people in the evolution of a common European history.
